Leoville: This is Your Brain
Friday, October 12th, 2007Look at this spinning dancer.
I can switch the direction that I observe by looking with my peripheral vision and letting my eyes go out of focus a little. Part of the advice Rebecca gave for seeing auras.
Visiting Family
Wednesday, October 10th, 2007Tomorrow the crazy begins. Everyone comes in for Grandma’s big surprise birthday party. I’ll have house guests for the first time since Mom’s first Bill got sick, 4 years ago. Everything should be good to go, though I wish I had a third bathroom just for Patience.
Maybe, I’ll get luck and someone will take this Vista machine with them.
The Register: Flying Car
Wednesday, October 10th, 2007The idea here is that you still have your trusty flying vehicle parked in your driveway or garage, taking up no more room than a regular motor. You stroll out, fire it up and drive it away to a nearby airstrip. Here you extend/attach the wings, prop etc., and it’s up, up and away. When you get to your destination strip, you land, convert back to roadgoing configuration, and trundle along to where you’re going.

Windows Home Server Release
Tuesday, October 9th, 2007Or at least you can order it from NewEgg now. $190 for the OEM disk seems a bit high. $150 would be more appropriate. This is admittedly a Windows 2003 Server with a 2-3 significant features and a few more minor ones. At $190, you’ll never see a “cheap” WinHS preconfigured box. This prices them at $600 w/o drives and limited upgrade ability to $1000 or more. For that price, it’s far better to build you own.
OEM pricing for Windows Home Server comes into focus at below $200
Law of Attraction by Formula
Monday, October 8th, 2007The Law of Attraction is very popular these days. I find it very entertaining that my mind translates Attraction into Gravity most of the time. Gravity, as defined by physics, has several formulas associated with it that can allow the effects to be predicted. This brings up a good question. Does a similar set of formulas exist for the Law of Attraction? This would be a fascinating subject to explore. As gravity was learned through direct observation, the Law of Attraction could be discovered the same way.
Gutenberg Project
Sunday, October 7th, 2007Google recently turned up a book on dryland farming. To my great surprise, the entire content is available free. Why? Because it’s from ~1910 and the copyright has expired.
The Gutenberg projects scans old books and makes them freely available on the internet. There are currently 20,000 books. The farming book is 464kb in plain text. Very cool.
Real Rocket Powered X-Wing Takes Flight
Sunday, October 7th, 2007X-Wing Rocket Launches, Disintegrates Mid-Air
Here’s a short video of the 21-foot-long X-Wing rocket launching at Plaster City, California, and then desintegrating spectacularly in mid-air. And no, it wasn’t Darth Vader or those pesky deflector towers, just the stress from the launch. I can only say two things. The first is: absolutely amazing. And the second: poor Porkins. Come back later for our exclusive feature, with full video and interviews with the Rebel engineers.
Mac: Day 20
Saturday, October 6th, 2007The Mac is pretty much integrated. I had to go back and count how many days. The blog doesn’t have a single Mac: Day X post on it. That’s a good sign it’s in. Vista hasn’t been on in a week. There are a few more files to transfer off and it can merrily be on its way. The extra space will be welcome. This will be the last Mac switch over post. There’s a new category to cover Mac specific posts. In summary, the MacBook is great. I recommend Macs for email, Internet, word processing use far and above Vista. XP would be in second place after the Mac.
Macbook for $1100-$1500
Mac Mini for $600- $800
