Mason Bees

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

The Gardening lecture was quite nice. It was suprising to see that they were selling a few things. Homemade tomato cages, about 5′ tall made out of what looked like thin fencing material we used to keep the pigs in. And bags with instructions for soil testing and Mason Bee houses. I was surprised to hear about these little guys.

They are nearly stingless, 3/8″, don’t make honey, can pollinate a large fruit tree in a day, and lay their eggs in what look like small birdhouses with lots of holes instead of one big one. These are the links I found after a quick search.

Revisting a College Apt in a Dream

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

Last night, I had a very unusual.. Well, no not that unusual, but interesting dream.

I went back to an apt I had with some roommates during college. It was very familiar, as if I was coming back to visit after being gone 10 yr. Everyone had aged some. One had moved out? There had been myself, 2 guys and a girl in an unusual apt at the top of an elevator with the apt spread across two or three levels. Very open, Victorian or slightly so. Wood floors and a floor plan that let you walk through one room into another.

It felt very much like a place I had lived during college. When I woke, in that half awake state, I had to cycle through all the places(3) I had lived during college. And had to admit it was not in the list. Also thinking then, the time in my life when this dream was common might not have been college, but high school. Thinking now, a time frame of college with feelings of high school could be summers between semesters in Canadian.

Anyway, I woke truly believing I had lived here and just visited. This has happened before many times in many “locations”. But not so recently or convincingly. It’s funny when I moved into this apt. I dreamed several times of having moved into another apt, but much cooler. It had a open roof in one area near the bathroom. Very beautiful, but my dream places are usually more interesting. The dream journal shows I started writing at 5:58am, almost time to wake up.

So, my question is this: “Ether, please explain, thank you.”

Moving

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

The movers are lined up for 3/13 at 9:00 am. It’s A-1 Moving. They were recommended in my Meditation class. 3 guys for $70/hr with a minimum of 2 hr and $65 for the stairs. I think it will take 3-4 hr, so ~275-345.

I called about DSL Internet and it’s not already setup. Which sucks, because it will take weeks to setup or get installed. This apt may be empty except for this computer, a chair, and a monitor. Still have to call about the other services, but I doubt that they will be a problem.

Jessica gave me the # for her landscaper. I need to set an apt for 3/13 afternoon for an estimate. Mon. I need to walk the property and decide on which plants stay/go. Also, if I want a flower bed and where. So, that I can ask about installing a drip irrigation.

This weekend the El Camino needs to get inspected to keep from a ticket when I move it. Tonight, I attend an A&M Master Gardeners Lecture from 7-8. There are 6 more of these left.

Two weekends and a week till closing. Yay!

New Zealand TV Station use Wok instead of Dish

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

A New Zealand TV station couldn’t afford a $20k satellite link so they found a company that makes them out of $10 Woks.
