I had an interesting dream from Friday night. Thought I was losing it, going house crazy. Today, I understand. The dream was that I came back to my apt, not this one I have a much cooler dream apt, and there were boxes and some construction going on. The apt manager was there and they were renting my apt. I told them I thought it was early, didn’t I have some months. She said she thought so too, but here it is. I’ve got till 10/4 Tue/Wed to move out. Which would be about 4-5 days. I woke up and wrote down the dream. It disturbed me because the time was so quick and I had nothing packed and no place to live. There was some confusion in my mind whether the 4th was on Tue or Wed.
So today I called Access Credit Union, they don’t handle home mortgages. They haven’t been too helpful over the years. Wouldn’t take my car loan, slow to get internet banking, won’t handle my home loan. Anyway, the man was very nice. Told me all the home loans were being sold. Even if you sign with XYZ Co., ABC Co. will handle you loan under the agreed terms. Reminds me of my student loan. Graduation quarter and my loan changed hands 3 times before I made a single payment. Anyway, he recommended CountryWide, a couple of credit unions I wouldn’t qualify for, Amarillo National, and First Union Bank.
I called ANB and you don’t qualify over the phone. You fill in a paper and or internet app and wait till they call you. Odd, but ok. I did that, twice actually software bugs are fun. Filled in an internet app with First Union and CountryWide. Both approved my ballpark ~$150K amount. I expect to get a call from both or all tomorrow.
That explains my dream. 10/3 Tue it starts and 10/4 Wed it becomes official. I’ll get a preapproval for an amount, pick the loan type, whatever. It becomes official then.
Backup a little…
My friend Bridget got a house recently and she discovered that here apt lease was up in 30 days. From Thurs to Sat. she got the loan, pre-approval, and found a house over an hour away. That got me thinking. There’s 4-5 mo left in my lease (I found out 6 mo on Sat.). I paid my last debt, Student Loan, last month. Jessica got a house. Grandma talked about it. Christopher moved to Pampa, oops need to blog that. My money going out unrecoverably to rent could come back in the future as an investment. The housing bubble should go out soon (good buying, bad selling). Marie did beautiful things to her house. I grew so much shit on the patio I need dirt next. Blah, blah, blah (insert any other rationalization you can think of I couldn’t have used them all.)
Anyway, I’ve been look around the areas of town. Thinking where do I want to live. There’s far south around water, but that’s 20 from they city limits. Hollywood and I27, cow smell and traffic. Westcliff, near my Apt beautiful but a little expensive and the wrong direction. Soncy, hah one street not an intersection, cow smell and traffic. I stumbled onto a few places driving around. 34th and Washington, Christopher says those are on a playa lake and sinking.
34th and Ross, fairly cheap, near I27 and I40, a city park, animal control, and water plant will keep the traffic down, room for commerical development, under construction elementary school, and about midway between east and west Amarillo. Far west being soncy/coulter/hollywood. I was very pleased to find the woman across the cube aisle at work had bought a phase 1 house there. She described the process she went through. It sounded interesting.
The chance to “design” my own space. Great, I’ve gotten to increasing think things around me are designed wrong to begin with. My Yoga practice has suffered for the lack of a non-carpeted floor. I could wire computer cable and speaker cables in the walls and ceilings. No more wires across the carpets.
So, I’ve been looking at builder’s houses. Floor plans, etc. My ideal floor plan puts the garage in front. Master, living room, and 1 bedroom face the backyard. I plan to have a very beautiful growing backyard. The garage in the front cuts(pun) the mowable grass area. Anthony, pointed out it allows more parking too. I would like to have some nice elements in the house that I can’t do, but much of the house can be cheap and plain as possible. I can do a lot of stuff after it’s built. Ceiling fans, wood floor, texture, paint, tile, etc. Some things like skylights, bath tub, windows, etc. can be handled by the builder much better than me. Construction should take 4.5 mo. I have 6.
It should be an interesting 6 mo. Which by they way is hold long it is till my birthday. A house for my birthday(4/4) present. It may take years to top that.
